The World Games 2022 Brings Opportunities to Small Businesses
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., USA, Nov 15, 2021 – The World Games 2022 hosted an informational session for Birmingham food truck owners and merchants to learn about the working opportunities at The Games.
The World Games 2022 will bring world-class athletes and unique sports to hundreds of thousands of Birmingham spectators and allow small Birmingham businesses to use its platform during The Games.
“There is more that is bringing us together than pulls us apart, and this is the opportunity to showcase that to the world,” said The World Games 2022 Birmingham CEO Nick Sellers.
The World Games 2022 will display Birmingham’s unity through food and vendor opportunities at the games. Around 40 local food trucks will sell food at various venues at the games, and the Merchant Market will feature hundreds of local merchants in The World Games Plaza, located at the new City Walk BHAM outdoor space. These food trucks and merchants will provide thousands of audience members with a taste of Birmingham’s food, small businesses, and culture.
The Games intentionally included women-owned and minority-owned businesses throughout the vendor recruiting process. TWG 2022 prioritized this community through the World of Opportunity (WOO), a program created to connect diverse Birmingham businesses. Vendors and merchants will have their products seen by people visiting worldwide, which will provide them with global brand exposure.
“This collaboration will greatly impact Birmingham’s economy and financially boost businesses,” said Josh Bryant, CFO of The World Games 2022. “The estimated economic impact to the region is $256 million.”
The information session provided applicants with information regarding business permits and licenses. Additionally, the City of Birmingham Department of Revenue provided tax information, and the Birmingham Business Resource Center discussed available fundings.
Executive Director of Birmingham Business Resource Center Bob Dickerson says BBRC focuses on creating sustainable plans for small businesses and vendors to thrive after The Games end.
“Sustainability is an important piece in The World Games’ initiatives, and one focus is to ensure that food trucks and merchants are also participating in sustainability,” said Jerethia Blake, Diversity Supply Manager at TWG 2022. “The World Games will help each vendor create as little waste as possible and help them identify sustainable areas to improve.”
Birmingham food trucks owners and merchants are grateful for this platform provided by The World Games. Denise Young, a merchant applicant, and owner of Young Farms, says she is excited for people from different countries to try her apple butter.
“It will put my business on a global scale,” said Young. “People will be traveling from all over the county, and they will be able to purchase our products and know our name.”
