As the countdown to The World Games 2022 continues, the Birmingham Organizing Committee is excited to launch The World Games 2022 Experience with a new look! Sponsored by Shipt, the traveling vehicle features safe, interactive exhibits including photo opportunities and a trivia challenge where guests have the chance to win prizes. All the activities are free, open to all ages and designed with COVID-related safety precautions in place.
The World Games 2022 and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama have proudly developed the Live Healthy, Play Global program – a first-of-its-kind education initiative featuring relevant resources inspired by The World Games 2022. The program was developed by a team of educators and community partners.
The goal of the Live Healthy, Play Global program is to support a physically active Birmingham, ensuring that students engage in physical activity, see the importance of traditional sports values, and benefit from the enhancement of physical education and social studies curriculums inspired by The World Games 2022.
The program will provide students with the opportunity to play sports featured in The World Games 2022 through a partnership with the “Let’s Move” initiative. Initial sports will include Korfball, Floorball and Flying Disc. It will also provide classroom resources and activities that will connect The World Games 2022 with physical education, social studies and athletics, as well as provide professional development opportunities for educators.
ICON Health will design a Healthy Eating, Active Living (H.E.A.L) Program component for citizens across the Southeast in an effort to leverage the energy The World Games 2022 bring to neighboring communities. The South is known for higher obesity rates, higher mortality rates, as well as low morbidity rates (quality of life) due to documented sedentary lifestyles. The World Games 2022 represents an amazing opportunity to engage communities to eat healthier, and choose physical activity regimens to stay engaged during and post- game activities. This initiative will kick off with a 5K in downtown Birmingham.
The World of Opportunity program connects local, diverse businesses in Birmingham and the greater metropolitan area to compete for opportunities to provide goods and services for The World Games 2022.
The program provides direct access to future work with The World Games 2022 in a variety of categories, including transportation services, event production, security, promotional items, merchandise, sports equipment, food service, technology, printing, medical supplies, event equipment, waste removal, construction services and more.
The Birmingham Organizing Committee has established a Sustainability Task Group to develop and provide direction regarding achievable goals for The World Games 2022. The working committee includes local representatives who serve in “green” initiatives for their respective Birmingham organizations.
