Karate Star Ayumi Uekusa has been designated by The World Games as their “Athlete of October 2018”. The Japanese karateka has received the recognition by The World Games after completing a record-breaking season.

The third-dan Goyu karateka from Japan adds The World Games’ Athlete of October award to the many achievements that the fierce competitor has achieved in the last year. As the press release issued by The World Games announcing the decision states, Ayumi Uekusa is performing at an outstanding level this year after taking the Asian Games title and three gold medals in Karate 1-Premier League thus winning the Grand Winner award for the second consecutive time.  She is also a two-time champion of The World Games.

As a result of her medal-full season (eight medals in ten international appearances this year), the 26-year-old karateka is the firm WKF World ranking leader of the Female Kumite +68kg category. The Japanese friendly athlete is achieving so many successes at the highest level that Uekusa has taken no less than 25 medals in 27 appearances in six years of international career.

Ayumi Uekusa receives this prestigious recognition only a few days away from making her debut in the 2018 Karate World Championships in Madrid. The Japanese star will star her participation in the World Championships on Tuesday, November 6 with the elimination rounds of her category.
